Using QR Codes to Share Videos with parents

by Madison McCormick

In my article, a kindergarten teacher found a way to use QR codes to share videos of her students and their work with their parents or guardians. She figured out how to make it work using Dropbox. The class went on their annual Fall trip to the pumpkin patch. The teacher wanted the students to have a chance to share about their experience and give them a chance to develop their oral language skills. She asked each child to tell a story about the trip and recorded a video of them on an iPad. Some of the students talked like a robot on video and others went into great detail. The teacher explained that next timejunk she might do a bit more pre-teaching because she thinks some of them just weren’t sure what to say. The children also created Fall pumpkin artwork in their art class. After putting up the student’s pumpkins on the wall, the teacher added each child’s name to their art work followed by the QR code that was linked to each child’s video.
This news will give children a way to learn about a new technique used in technology. The younger students will most likely also find it very interesting and cool.
This creates an easy and fun way for teachers to connect with parents and share the students work in another way other than an ordinary email.

Storyboard That: An Exciting EdTech Tool That Just got Even Better

by Seerun Cubuk

https://www.emergingedtech.com/2019/09/storyboard-that-exciting-edtech-tool-just-got-better/

This article talks about an app called Storyboard That which can be used to tell stories, give instructions, or show a process. Students and teachers are able to depict how they want their story to go. This is a great way for students to be creative and interactive with their story. Students are also able to record their own voice into a story.

This news will affect young children and their families by creating positive vibes. Children can use this at home and create stories with their families. Parents can also be able to create a bedtime story and read it to their children.junk

This news will influence Early Childhood Education by giving teachers a new set of ways to give instructions. Using Storyboard That, children may be more attentive and interested into what the teacher is saying. Instead of the teacher giving the instructions to the students, they are explaining it in a way to grab the student’s attention.

Are Smartwatches a Smart Choice for School?

by Ashley Son

https://www.thetechedvocate.org/are-smartwatches-a-smart-choice-for-school/

‘Octopus’ creates smartwatches for young children which creates a debate whether it should or shouldn’t be allowed in school. Due to an increase of crimes involving young children, many families feel that it is necessary to track their child at all times. These smartphones also offer up-to-date educational functions and promote healthy habits. Children will learn the concept of time by being alerted when it is bed time and dinner time or even time upcoming events. Smartwatches can also be beneficial for children with ADHD and help improve their daily lives by providing them reminders of certain tasks such as taking medications. This device will sync with parent’s smartphones allowing them to be on the junkloop with their child. Although, smartwatches offer many benefits, it can be very distracting for children. Having a device on you at all times could cause students to not pay attention in school.

How will this news affect young children and their families? This smartwatch can bring peace to families that will know where their child is at all times. For young children, it can improve their daily lives and bring new and different educational opportunities. For early childhood education, it can help students with a very strict medication schedule and keep them on track. With more studies, it might be able to break the barrier between English language speakers and teachers. This can also be very distracting for to the child with the smartwatch and other students; it can also be harder for teachers to control the class.
